Hand Sewing 101: Learn Basic and Embroidery Stitches for Everyday Projects

Do you wish you knew how to sew on a button or hem your own pants? Do you admire fashion with unique embroidered details? Hand sewing is a useful and relaxing skill that helps you with everything from repairing and altering clothing, bags, and toys to embellishing them with beautiful embroidery techniques.

Who is it for?

These classes are for anyone age 8 and up. No prior experience is necessary. Scheduled around your calendar, one-on-one instruction is the best way to make sure you get the focus and personalized attention you need to accomplish your desired goals in your own time.

What will you learn?

  • Tips for threading needles and tying sturdy knots
  • How to decide which needles and threads to use for your projects
  • How to sew a variety of utility stitches for attaching buttons, hemming, and repairing clothing
  • How to sew beginning and advanced embroidery stitches
  • How to have FUN making things, even when you run into challenges

During the first class you will create a stitch sampler of utility stitches and beginning embroidery stitches. Continued classes can teach you more advanced embroidery stitches or you can make a project using hand sewing techniques.

Sounds Great! How do I sign up?

Private sewing lessons are held in my studio in the heart of San Bruno, CA and are offered Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday through Saturday between 10am and 8pm, by appointment only. A lesson is $50 per hour, for 2 hours. I am flexible if you want longer or shorter sessions, but in my experience 2 hours generally works best.
